A Rose Story

Join us Saturday, January 26th for a day of complete rose invigoration. Not only do roses mesmerize us with their beauty but they are the one of the most ancient botanical medicines, reminding us of the power of nature and the wonder-full coexistence of softness and strength. The story of a rose is enchanting and connecting with their stem is a spiritual exchange that gently sweeps the heart. This floral arranging class will teach and instruct how to prepare and process florals, as well as artistically connect with the way of a rose. You'll head home with a beautiful centrepiece and an insightful rose lesson on how this bloom has been used throughout the ages aspowerful heart medicine.

This beginner class will cover all materials, a wide array of floral arranging techniques, as well as tips and tricks to keep your cut flowers lasting longer.


Details

This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning how to design a floral centerpiece as well as in the medicinal and mythological significance of the rose. The workshop will cover a range of techniques, which include:


- How to clean and process a rose
- Preparing an ecoconscious and environmentally friendly vessel

- Texture, palette and position techniques

- An intro to rehydration

- Floral tips for keeping cut flowers longer

- Plant medicine and magic study of the Rose by druid herbalist Stephen Hotchkiss featuring a tasting of various infusions and potions.

Zen and the Art of Houseplant Maintenance

Join us Sunday, January 27th for a lovely afternoon of terrariums, propagation and plant care! Whether you live in the mix of sweet and cheery Elgin County or in the middle of our sprawling Forest City, houseplants improve the quality of our lives. Living plants bring great beauty, change a room and are a reminder of the majesty that comes along with growth and connection. Houseplants are constantly changing, providing us with a little bit of magic that we can watch day by day and we want to celebrate them!

This class will teach and instruct how to propagate from a soft stem root cut in water, build a beautiful terrarium home with geometric stylings provided by Nightshade Studio, followed by helpful tips for continual plant care. This is an exciting, full process workshop that passes through the stages of new beginnings to sustaining the growth of your green pals for a happy and healthy life.

The class will cover all materials as well as plant care techniques to keep your houseplants singing and dancing.

This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning how to propagate plant stems in beakers, plant up a Nightshade Studio (exquisite, local and hand crafted) terrarium and learn how to trouble shoot common problems within the home in order to promote healthy growth among their plants. The workshop will cover a range of techniques, which include:

- Plant care(light, temperature & humidity)

- Watering

- Potting & drainage

- Simple Propagation(leaf cuttings, rooting plantlets/offcuts, dividing plants)

- On-going plant care tips and trouble shooting cultural problems.
